About Industry

Build an American textile company from water-powered mills to an integrated steam empire.

Industry is an approachable historical economic strategy game set during the early Industrial Revolution. Choose where to establish your works, balance Cloth production against finite demand, expand into Steam Works and Finished Goods, and compete with a rival selling into the same regional markets.

Geography matters. New England rivers offer excellent water power, Pennsylvania coal supports efficient steam production, and every route to Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Charleston, or New Orleans carries a different freight cost. A profitable company needs more than mills—it needs the right mills in the right places.

Features

  • Build Water Mills and Steam Works across a hand-drawn historical atlas
  • Create complete Cloth-to-Finished-Goods production chains
  • Compete for finite demand in five regional markets
  • Follow freight, sales, surplus, and profit through clear annual reports
  • React to historical events, infrastructure proposals, weather, and changing markets
  • Face a computer-controlled rival or play locally with another person
  • Choose from three strategic difficulty levels
  • Learn through First Mill, a streamlined ten-year mode for younger players
  • Save automatically or maintain multiple named ledgers

Every campaign is deterministic from its seed, making outcomes reproducible while market pressure, events, geography, and rival expansion create a different industrial story.

Industry is a modern remake of a Turbo Pascal strategy game from 1991. The presentation and controls are new, while the original game’s fascination with water, coal, efficiency, risk, and industrial competition remains at its heart.
